EBE Awards 42

SOBEN’S drive to be the best was illustrated yet again when trainee quantity surveyor Blair Webster won a top award.

He was named Top Professional Placement Student in the School of Engineering and the Built Environment at Glasgow Caledonian University.

Blair, who is studying for a BSc in Quantity Surveying, was presented with a certificate by Jill Davidson, of Hays Recruitment, at a ceremony at the university on June 29, 2017.

The award was sponsored by Hays, who source staff for some of the largest public sector and commercial organisations in the built environment and who work with key institutions to recognise achievement and help encourage young people to enter the sector.

Blair said: “I am so proud of this achievement. To be honoured like this is a real feather in my cap.

“But I have to take take this opportunity to thank all my colleagues at Soben, without whom I might not have won this award.

“So this prize is as much for them as it is for me – their support, guidance and training have  been invaluable at a key stage in my life.

“I have been given the best grounding any Quantity Surveying student could wish for – and I will be eternally grateful for that.”

Soben Managing Director Scott Smyth said: “Blair is a real credit to Soben and the university – this award is a beacon for other students looking to build a career in our industry.

“He has a very promising future ahead of him – and I’m sure he will go on to fulfil his undoubted potential.”

In March, 2017, we told how Blair joined the Soben Academy training programme and splits his time between his graduate studies at GCU and working with Soben.

As a result, he has gained invaluable experience working on some prestigious and challenging projects.
