Scott Smyth

Founder & Managing Director

Scott is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with more than 25 years’ experience and is the founder of Soben.

He spent the first 10 years of his career in private practice and with a local authority before taking up various commercial management roles with main contractors.

Scott experienced first-hand the lack of specific contractor-focused expertise available and founded Soben to fill this void.

He devised the approach, values and service standards upon which Soben was founded and which continue to this day.

Paul Moultrie

Paul Moultrie

Chairman

Paul has more than 30 years’ experience in the construction industry. He is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with a Master’s Degree in Construction Law and a Master’s Degree in Construction Management.

Paul actively promotes the construction industry, having held a senior advisory position with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and is an honorary senior fellow of Glasgow Caledonian University.

Additionally, Paul is the past Chairman of Glasgow Caledonian University’s Industry Advisory Group, having held that position for seven years.

Andrew Gallacher

Andrew Gallacher

Director

Andrew is Quantity Surveyor with more than 17 years’ experience in the construction industry.

He has worked across a range of main contractors and sectors, ensuring a broad experience.

He has an excellent working knowledge of various forms of construction contracts, including bespoke terms and conditions.

Prior to joining Soben, Andrew spent seven years as general manager for a leading construction business dedicated to the delivery of a world-class service to its clients.

Ian Tucker

Associate Director

Ian brings a wealth of construction and commercial knowledge to the business having spent the first 10 years of his career fulfilling a number of post contract positions in the industry. Ian now manages our team of Quantity Surveyors and our world class pre-contract service delivery. He is also responsible for implementing new systems and software across the business ensuring that Soben remain at the cutting edge of new technology.

Kevin Carr

Kevin Carr

Managing Surveyor

Kevin is a quantity surveyor with over 15 years’ experience. He has worked on a wide range of projects throughout the UK and in Australia, for private practices and contracting organisations. Kevin has experience in many aspects of pre-contract and post-contract quantity surveying including cost planning, measurement, contract administration and dispute resolution. His vast and international range of experience is proving to be a valuable addition to the Soben team.

Alan Prenty

Alan Prenty

Managing Surveyor

Alan is a Quantity Surveyor with over 36 years’ pre- and post-contract experience. Having initially trained in private practice, Alan’s career has seen him work extensively throughout the UK and the Middle East. Alan is vastly experienced in Office and Retail Fit Out, Hotel and Leisure, Local Government and the Oil and Gas Sectors and brings all of his experience to bear in his work for Soben.

Sandy Milroy

Sandy Milroy

Managing Surveyor

Sandy has more than 40 years’ experience as a quantity surveyor working mainly in the PQS sector. He has worked across a wide range of construction sectors, and brings a broad experience of work for clients in both the private and public sector on a wide range of project types. He has a wide working knowledge of various forms of construction contracts, including bespoke terms and conditions. Prior to joining Soben, Sandy spent thirty years as partner of a private QS firm at the leading edge of construction in Scotland.

Michael McAvoy

Michael McAvoy

Managing Surveyor

Michael is a Quantity Surveyor with over 13 years’ experience. He has worked on several large commercial projects over the past 10 years, most recently in New Zealand where he spent three years working in the Christchurch rebuild. Michael’s wealth of commercial knowledge and passion to deliver prestigious projects has seen him prepare bills of quantities on some of the UK’s largest schemes, including the HQ for a leading internet search engine provider. His knowledge and understanding of large, complex projects, provides Soben with a unique skillset adding further value to our world class surveying team.

Neil Rattray

Neil Rattray

Managing Surveyor

Neil has more than 35 years’ experience in the construction industry, providing quantity surveying and project management services for clients in both the private and public sector on a wide range of project types.

Neil became a chartered quantity surveyor in 1987 and in 1992 established his own practice which in 1999 became part of the Needlemans Group, providing services to a range of blue-chip clients, including Axa Sun Life, Allied Distillers, John Dewar & Son, British Airports Authority, London Underground, together with several national house builders and commercial property development organisations.
