RENOWNED golfer and Soben Chairman Paul Moultrie is no stranger to a tee – but he encountered one with a different spelling at a special royal event.

He sipped tea from a fine china cup in the company of the great and the good at the Queen’s Garden Party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh on July 4, 2017.

Paul, a member of Royal Troon Golf Club, attended the annual event with his wife Gillian and mingled with the 8,000 guests who downed 27,000 cups of tea, 20,000 sandwiches and 20,000 slices of cake during the course of the afternoon.

Paul and Gillian were invited as a result of his involvement with several charitable enterprises, and he said afterwards: “It was an honour to have been present at such a wonderful event, and it was a truly memorable afternoon.”

In December, we told the story of Paul’s involvement in the prestigious World Club Championships amateur tournament in Thailand,

The attendance of Paul and Gillian reinforced Soben’s royal credentials after we revealed in May, 2017, that we had secured a princely contract to prepare Bills of Quantities for a £10 million refurbishment at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

The Edinburgh garden party is one of four held every year – the other three are staged at Buckingham Palace in London.

They are a way for the Queen to speak to a broad range of people from all walks of life, all of whom have made a positive impact in their community.

A long-established network of sponsors is used to invite guests, who include Lord-Lieutenants, Societies and Associations, Government Departments, Local Government, the Services, the Church and other Faiths.

On the big day, the Queen and Prince Philip, accompanied by other Members of the Royal Family, enter the garden at 4pm, when the National Anthem is played by one of the two military bands present.

The royal couple circulate among the guests through ‘”lanes”. Each takes a different route and random presentations are made, so that everyone has an equal chance of speaking to them.

The Queen then arrives at the Royal Tea Tent, where she meets further guests. Guests are free to eat, drink and stroll around the beautiful Palace gardens.
