Tell us about your career journey to date
Well, it was never in my plans to be in the construction industry, but it’s one of those things that you end up falling in love with!
Fresh out of college, I stumbled upon an opportunity in the Contract department of a healthcare provider which led me to the powerful world of construction. I spent most of my career in the Healthcare industry and the last 4-5 years in Data Centers. I find them both very satisfying with different challenges.
You’ve worked on many projects over the years – which ones stand out for you?
I can’t really pick one project, because every project has its own challenges and is equally rewarding.
Healthcare construction is very gratifying as the end result provides much-needed medical services to the community at large.
Data centers are also very fulfilling because they are the backbone of almost everything we do in our day-to-day and they have become my new love.
What has been the most challenging project you’ve worked on, and why?
I don’t have a specific project in mind, but I find that they all require a different approach. Data centers are very different to everything else, so I think that the true challenge lies in your capacity to adapt and remain flexible.
What have been the defining moments of your career?
Every moment has been defining! In the end, everything that I have done pivoted me to where I am today. I am very happy career-wise and I wouldn’t change anything (positive or negative), since every decision has led me to this day.
What career advice would you give your younger self?
Stress won’t make you perform more or better! Learn to balance work and life; give both the equal amount of attention and care they deserve.
May will be a guest speaker at DCD Connect Silicon Valley on June 26th in the debate ‘How much can the industry really diversify its supply chain?’ so don’t miss out if you’re attending!
