To date, Soben has invested £200k in cutting-edge measurement software, allowing the business to complete bills of quantities (BQ) commissions with increased efficiency and accuracy. The software provides Soben’s clients with full transparency and interactivity between quantities and drawings.
The investment has enabled the new hardware and software to be rolled out across the country to the Soben team, ensuring that they have the latest technology at their fingertips to deliver a world class service to clients.
The software enables Soben’s quantity surveyors to takeoff measurements electronically in 2D and 3D, and prepare bills of quantities linked to marked-up drawings, cost plans, and estimates all within a single integrated platform.
The software also allows the interrogation of BIM models, enabling the Soben team to generate automatic quantities from the model, perform a gap analysis on the information, and identify any errors and discrepancies.
The benefits to clients include fully interactive bills of quantities that are ‘live-linked’ to marked-up drawings providing transparency, cost certainty, and clearer risk profiles from estimate through to final account. Clients also have the ability to easily trace quantities to drawings.
Once prepared, the bills of quantities can be exported to CITE, Excel, or pdf format to suit the client’s requirements, providing seamless integration with their in-house estimating software package.
Soben founder and managing director Scott Smyth commented; “Our core service is producing bills of quantities for our main contractor clients. By investing in this new hardware and software, and providing comprehensive training to our staff, we are securing our position as the leading provider of robust and accurate BQs, giving our clients full confidence in the core information used when preparing their tenders.”
