WHEN the going gets tough, the tough get going – and the tougher the better for a team of 10 of Soben’s hardiest heroes.
We are entering the UK’s most challenging obstacle and muck course – the famous Tough Mudder.
It’s a 10-mile lung-busting challenge across rough countryside that includes 20-plus obstacles plus epic amounts of mud and a few twists and turns along the way.
There are a number of Tough Mudder challenges taking place across the UK at various dates throughout 2018, and Soben’s dauntless daredevils have opted to take the Scottish challenge on June 16.
It takes place in the extensive grounds of Drumlanrig Castle in Dumfries and Galloway and promises participants the “pleasure” of experiencing epic amounts of mud, crazy obstacles, an ice bath and “electric shock” treatment!
Electroshock Therapy – to give it its correct name – is the event’s signature challenge, involving running through wires fizzing with 10,000 volts (triple the sting of your average electric fence).
Our intrepid team of 10, who are taking part to raise money for Seagull Trust Cruises, are Scott Smyth, Andrew Gallacher, Christopher Ward, Murphy McCutcheon, Andrew Hedges, Ian Tucker, Jonathan Murchie, Kyle Shirkie, Michael McAvoy and Melanie Eynon.
Seagull Trust Cruises was founded in 1978 and provides canal cruises for disabled people of all ages across Scotland.
It operates a fleet of purpose-built boats from four locations – Kirkintilloch, Falkirk, Inverness and Ratho, near Edinburgh – and they are all crewed by trained volunteers.
Tough Mudder is worldwide network of 130 events in 11 countries with three million entrants.
