Soben chairman Paul Moultrie got off to a great start in the World Club Championship of golf in Thailand.
He contacted colleagues back in Scotland with an update in the early hours of Thursday, December 8, 2016, after the first round of play, to report that he and teammate Michael Smyth returned a team score of 74.
Paul, who is representing Royal Troon Golf Club, where he is a past champion, said: “We just ran out of gas slightly on the last few holes in the 90C heat – very humid as well.
“It was a long round of golf, lasting five and a half hours. The greens are very fast, with lots of big slopes, which makes putting very challenging, to say the least.
“But it’s the same for everyone. It’s a great golf course, set up for championship play.
“Played on the first day with two players from South Korea – nice guys. Up next, we’re playing with a team for the USA who have previously won this event, so looking forward to that.
“The RT team needs to play well today to try to qualify for match play stage.”
On December 1, we revealed that Paul would fly the Soben flag at the WCC, which is being staged on the Ayodhya Links, near Bangkok.
