Complex project, comprehensive approach

Luton and Dunstable (L&D) University Hospital is an acute hospital in Luton, Bedfordshire. L&D provides medical and surgical services for over 350,000 people around Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

The hospital will be an extension and refurbishment of the Luton and Dunstable (L&D) University Hospital’s Emergency Department. The project includes the creation of a new entrance into the healthcare facility, which will provide greater accessibility for the local community to quality care and critical services. Soben worked with ISG during the early contractor involvement (ECI) to support them with a detailed review, update and commentary of the employer’s cost plan and budget.

Delivering on our promises

Soben provided a detailed review of the design information (2D) and prepared a report with observations on the employer’s cost plan including incorrect units of measurement, areas of over or under measures, identifying additional items of work required to reflect the contractor’s chosen construction methodology and sequencing, as well as identifying items of work that whilst not detailed from our expertise, would be required to complete the project.

Whilst the design information issued was traditional 2D, the final report produced by Soben, and the issued cost plan update, were fully interactive with live links between the cost plan quantities and the marked-up drawings. This allowed the client to present cost plan adjustments and their justifications openly and clearly to the employer’s Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS).
